2026 AGM and planning for the year

22 Feb by Stephen Day

We have set the date for our Annual General Meeting. It will be on 9 March, at 5.30, at Wilton Bowling Club. More details and an agenda will be available beforehand. The bar will be open, the club will provide some snacks, and some of us will meet for a run beforehand. And it’s an AGM! You won’t want to miss it.
At the AGM, we will elect our next management committee. We would love to expand our committee, in terms of both numbers and demographics.
The committee meets once a month. It sets the club’s overall direction. Ideally, it contains a president, vice-president, treasurer, and secretary, and some general committee members. Joining the committee does not need to be a big investment of time. It is a management committee, not a volunteer force!
If you would like to stand for the committee, come along to the AGM. Or if you can’t make the AGM, contact me or another committee member in advance, and we can nominate you in absentia.
There are many other ways to contribute to the club, apart from being on the committee, and if there is something else you would like to do for the club, we would love to have you involved. Here are some roles that we’d like to fill for the new season:
Recruitment coordinator. Working with the committee and the section captains, you would help bring new members into the club and make them feel welcome. This role has a great deal of potential; you could do it in whatever way you think best, and the club will put some money behind you.
Programme coordinator. You would help set our programme of events for the year, deciding which events the club should offer, and fitting them around the major NZ and Wellington events. This is a great job for anyone who loves planning and doesn’t mind a spreadsheet.
Social media maven. You would take the lead in deciding which platforms the club should have a presence on and in ensuring our presence is consistent and positive. This is a great job for someone who knows how social media works and wants to present our best face to the world.
Coaching coordinator. You would encourage club members to make themselves available as coaches, and then link them up with members – often our newest members – looking for coaching and mentoring. This is a rewarding role, great for anyone who likes bringing people together.
Those are some existing roles we would like to fill. But there is always room for anyone with ideas and energy who wants to make the club better. Please contact me anytime if you have an idea about how you could contribute to Wellington Scottish.
Happy running, and hope to see you at the AGM!
Simon
